Development Intern

POSITION

United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF) Development Intern

TIME FRAME

September – December 2025
Candidates must be able to commit 10 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible within the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. This position is in-person.

OVERVIEW

The United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF) is seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented intern to support our Development team. This position is ideal for someone interested in learning from a nonprofit about fundraising, and especially prospect research. The intern will gain valuable hands-on experience in donor development, strategic outreach, and business intelligence while supporting UPAF’s annual fundraising campaign that benefits dozens of performing arts organizations throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. OPPORTUNITIES                                                                            

  • Conduct research to identify and qualify prospective corporate partners and donors.
  • Gather and organize information on Southeastern Wisconsin businesses, including operations, leadership, and philanthropic history.
  • Support targeted outreach to donors through email, phone calls, and other communication methods.
  • Assist with direct mail fundraising efforts and donor acknowledgment processes.
  • Participate in additional development and marketing projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS                                                                           

  • Must be enrolled as a student during the Fall 2025 semester.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with an interest in learning about regional business and nonprofit ecosystems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking initiative, identifying project needs and solutions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Mail Merge.
  • Demonstrates dependability, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

COMPENSATION                                                                           

  • $1000 stipend upon completion
